Meeting Orlando
Author: Sykra Sawyer
Date: 06-06-02 13:08

Sykra, dressed in her silky robes, which was coloured different shades of purple, glanced in the mirror one last time. She had part of her hair pulled back and clipped with a silver barrette. Then she headed out the door.

"Oh!" Sykra ran into Orlando. "I'm sorry!"

Orlando laughed. "It's alright..." His voice trailed off as he stared at the Ravenclaw girl.

"What?"

"Nothing just...You're beautiful." He breathed.

Sykra blushed slightly. "Naw...but thanks." She glanced at the ground, suddenly nervous.

The Hufflepuff boy finally shook thoughts from his head. "Shall we get going?"

"Yeah...we shall." Sykra smiled at him as they headed towards the Snow Ball.

Fashionably Late
Author: Fred Weasley
Date: 06-06-02 14:48

Fred checked his appearance in the mirror. He looked good. Damn good. His red hair was combed a little bit differently than normal, giving him the look of an extremely classy guy. He was wearing plain black dress robes. Not only did they give him a slimming appearance (not that he needed it), but they also added to the whole classy look.

With one last look in the mirror, he trotted joyfully down the stairs, nearly tripping down the last few steps at the sight that awaited him in the common room. Sammi looked stunning! She dazzled, she shone, she glittered, she glowed–like a fairy!

Her smiled widened at the sight of Fred staring back at her with a dumb-struck look upon his face.

"An' I thought I was slow," she joked.

Fred regained his composure and strode over, taking her hand. "I just wanted to look my best. And besides, wot's wrong with bein' fashionably late?"

He couldn't help but kiss her right there. The glossy appearance of her lips just seemed so inviting. And besides, they were alone in the common room. Why not take the opportunity for a little make-out session?

Sammi was reading his mind, though, and pushed away from him. "No, yeh'll smudge me make-up!"

He pouted slightly, but nodded. "Oh, fine. But do ya 'ave to tease me with those lips?"

She grinned evily. "O' course. Now, c'mon. It's late and I wanna know if yeh're a good dancer!"

Arrival
Author: Orlando Devons
Date: 06-06-02 15:12

With Sykra on his arm, he felt he could do absolutely no wrong. They were a bit late but it was all well and good. He grins, looking down to her, "Shall we dance or mingle first?"

Sykra, radiant as usual, but that was accented by her superb dress robes, ponders, "I think we should mingle first, then dance." She drags him gently t'wards Aradia, tapping her friend on the shoulder, "Hey Aradia! Where's Golbez?"

Aradia shrugs, "I don't know. He hasn't come yet. I was about to ask if you'd seen him."

Orlando and Sykra shake their heads, Orlando speaking, "Sorry, but I'll let him know that you're looking for him if I do." Excusing themselves, they go on to talk with other friends of both.

In order to set his plan to help Dumbledore's cause in motion, he has to get to know someone better. What better way to start than at a New Year's Eve party where alcohol is flowing freely?

Within a short time, Viktor has Grigori in a one-on-one conversation about the advantages and disadvantages of each of the other national Quidditch teams. Grigori, one of Viktor's newest teammates, starts to loosen up, even admitting he'd thought Viktor to be standoffish to the point of rudeness. Viktor grins at hearing this, telling Grigori that he is fairly correct in his assessment. Viktor then goes on to explain he has a tendency to be extremely shy and as a result often appears rude. The other man nods in understanding, happy to be someone Viktor feels he can speak to on such friendly terms.

Waiting
Author: Jet
Date: 06-06-02 18:24

Jet paces in the hallway just beyond doors leading into the Great Hall. Wearing the same simple dress robe he wore at Halloween, Jet mentally pats himself on the back for not only leaving the chamber on time today but for being ready early for the ball. Now he's waiting on Hannah who'd told him to meet her in this spot. Jet fervently hopes Hannah likes the orchid corsage he'd gotten to match the color she'd given him. Now, if she'd just hurry up and get here!

Stunned Malfoy
Author: Clara Devaki
Date: 06-06-02 19:33

Clara combed her silky, jet-black hair and glanced in the mirror. Her hair seemed to flow over her emerald green robes. Her eyes, emerald green, seemed to stand out even more than usual. The bit of shimmering silver seemed to add just the right touch to her over-all look.

"Clara?"

The Slytherin jumped at the sound of her friend's voice. She turned to face Tempest. "Yeah?"

"Draco's waitin for ya..." Her voice trailed off as she grinned. "Clara you gonna knock 'im dead."

Clara laughed. "Right. Now...are you stayin in 'ere all night?"

"Stay here? While you have fun? 'Ell!" Tempest rolled her eyes. "I'm hoping maybe to cause some trouble or something. Naw I'mma get ready and then I'll make an appearance. Now go. Mr. Malfoy is waiting."

Clara took a deep breath and glanced in the mirror one last time. Then headed downstairs into the common room, where Malfoy awaited.

"Hey Draco."

"Hey Cla-" Malfoy stopped as he glanced at her. "Wow..." He breathed. Clara laughed, glanced up the stairs where Tempest was watching and waving her on. Clara took Malfoy's arm and led him out of the common room, him not taking his eyes off her.

As they reached the great hall, they slowed down a little. "Guess we should enter," Clara said, rather enjoying being alone with Malfoy. But if they got caught...

Malfoy sort of swung her around and put his arm around her. "We don't have to." He smirked. For a moment Clara was tempted, but then the doors opened and some other students walked out.

"Well...maybe we should go just for a little bit." Clara smiled as her eyes glistened. "But we could cut out early..."

"Sounds tempting."

Clara laughed and the two entered the Great Hall.

I arrive at the ball and look for Aradia. I see her talking to Cho. "Hello, ladies," I say. "Sorry I'm late. Snake problems." Aradia looks at me but simply says, "Eat them!! As us eagles do!"

"Oh, I showed him alright," I say simply. "You look beautiful," I tell Aradia.

"Thanks," she said. "You look nice too."

"You look lovely too, Cho."

I offer Aradia my arm and we enter the ball.

I enter the Great Hall where Dierna is waiting for me.

"Hello Dierna, I'm pleased you could make it." I tell my friend.

"Thank you for inviting me, Remus. It's almost like when we were students here, isn't it? And I must say, you look smashing in that new robe!" she says.

"Thank you," I reply. "Thank you for getting me these new robes. I really needed them."

"Don't mention it," she says simply.

I offer Dierna my arm and we enter the ball.

At the Snow Ball
Author: Albus Dumbledore
Date: 06-07-02 08:19

Albus was standing by the entrance to meet and greet the students coming in. He was watching all the young students dance with one another. This had been a great idea to go along with. It's not every year that Hogwarts has dances and slumber parties.

"Good evening Mr. Weasley. Where might you be going?" Albus asked George who was heading out the door.

"Oh, good evening professor! Just out to get some air." His smiled. Albus smiled.

"No funny business then?"

"Naw...but...now that ya mention it..." George gave a wicked grin, and Albus gave a serious, yet smiling look. "I'm only jokin' sir!"

Albus chuckled. "Good, good...Haven't seen your brother around yet."

"Oh, yeah. 'Im an' Sami are still in the common room. Gettin' ready I think. Fred was bein' mighty slow!" They both laughed as George took his leave.

Albus went back to observing.

The Waiting Ends
Author: Hannah Abbott
Date: 06-07-02 08:41

Hannah had agreed to meet Jet at the entrance of the Great Hall. She hurried out of the Common Room, she didn't want to be late. Once Hannah reached the stairs she slowed down and lifted her dress robes enough so that she wouldn't trip over it while walking up the stairs. Her clear colored heels with silver trim peaked out from under her orchid color velvet gown with loose fitting silver tassel belt. She still felt unsteady walking up and down stairs with heels.

When she reached the top step she stopped to straighten out her dress. Hannah could see Jet standing in front of the Great Hall. He had his back to her. Hannah walked up to him and tapped him on his shoulder. Jet turned around and looked at her, his mouth falling open. This caused Hannah to become shy.

Hannah could feel the heat rising to her cheeks. She put her arms behind her back and looked between the floor and Jet.

"Hello Jet," Hannah said once she found her voice.

Jet opened and closed his mouth a couple of times before replying.

"Hannah? Wow, you look stunning!" Jet held out the orchid corsage for Hannah.

"You look very handsome tonight," Hannah said while accepting her corsage.

'This is beautiful Jet. Thank you." Her shyness gone she gave Jet a quick peck on the cheek.

Jet offered Hannah his arm and they walked into the Great Hall. The dance floor was already covered with students.

Peaceful Slumber -Eh, Don't Think So
Author: Rubeus Hagrid
Date: 06-07-02 14:31

Hagrid and Professor McGonagall came into the large, open room in the dungeon. Like the Great Hall, candles floated about the room and food lay on long tables, lining the walls.

Hagrid smiled beneath his busy beard. " S'better than I thoughtid be!"

McGonagall smiled. "I hope the children will think so."

The pair watched a few first years laughing and giggling, chasing each other around the room.

"YOU'RE IT!" One rang out as he tackled his friend.

The one beneath him frowned as his friend rolled off of him. "Ouch! That hurt ya great lump!"

The two boys laughed and got up to get themselves some food.

Hagrid watched as Minerva McGonagall's eyes twinkled as she watched four girls sitting one in front of the other, braiding each other's hair.

He leaned over and whispered, "Looks like this lot is a bit bored, wouldn't ya say?"

"Yes," she sighed. "Does seem that way. Oh..."

Hargid turned to see Belladonna Sinistra dressed in a shiny-like pajama set, holding her pillow, a stuffed unicorn and wearing....bunny slippers?

"She alroight?" He whispered again.

Minerva chuckled and nodded. "She's fine." Her voice grew louder and she waved the woman over. "Professor Sinistra."

"Good evening, Professor McGonagall! I'm all set!" Belladonna rang, cheerfully.

Minerva nodded. "I see this. Belladonna, Hagrid will be helping you tonight, along with Nickolaus DeMimsy and the Fat Friar, who should be here any moment. And, Madame Hooch will also be joining us shortly."

"An' I talked ter Filch and Perfesser Sprout - they should be here, too." Hargid said. "Oh, dere's Madame Hooch!"

Minerva smiled at the woman and called her over; she told Madame Hooch of those who would be here to chaperone, too. "Well, then. Have a good time. I should be in and out just to see what is going on. Happy New Year!"

Hagrid grinned. "Happy New Yer, Perfesser!"

No Slumbering Here
Author: Madam Hooch
Date: 06-07-02 14:34

Madam Hooch walked around the dungeon waiting for the sleepover students to arrive. She had set up an area with a couple of chessboards for the students to play with. On the opposite wall, far from all other games, was the area designated for exploding snaps.

Madam Hooch was beginning to wonder why she had agreed to supervise the slumber party instead of the dance. She would be spending the evening surrounded by loud running children. Playing Quidditch was nothing in comparison to controlling a large group of rambunctious children.

{Burrow} Family Time
Author: Penelope Clearwater
Date: 06-07-02 14:42

Penelope and Percy decided to spend New Years at the Burrow with Mr. and Mrs. Weasley. With Charlie stuck in quarantine and Bill missing, this wasn't a happy way to end one year and start another.

Penelope and Percy arrived to the Burrow by Floo Network shortly before 20:00. Penelope had picked up a bottle of Champagne from the Muggle World. She thought that it might brighten Mr. Weasley's day.

I Spy
Author: Hermione Granger
Date: 06-07-02 16:03

Hermione's ears perked up at Harry's mention of Ginny. It was so like a boy to realize what has always been standing right before him when someone else had already swept her off her feet. She cast a quick glance out onto the dance floor where Brett had lifted Ginny off the ground and was twirling her around and around. Pardoning the pun in her mind, Hermione spoke up on Brett's behalf.

"He seems nice enough, Harry. I'm sure his intentions tonight with Ginny are good." She noticed the questioning look on Ron's face. "Ginny has excellent judgment. You should trust her."

Ron seemed to relax, but Hermione got the feeling that Harry didn't. In fact, he suddenly seized Hermione's hand and dragged her onto the dance floor while saying, "You don't mind, Ron? Great!"

Harry stopped in the middle of the room, took one of her hands and wrapped an arm around her waist. Taking his left hand with her right, Hermione placed her free hand on his shoulder. "What has gotten into you?" she asked, as they began waltzing across the room.

At first he didn't answer, because he was too busy scanning the room as well as concentrating on his dance steps. Finally, he said, "Dancing. Can't I dance with my best friend? I mean, I would have asked Ron to dance, but George and Toby had to steal the show." He laughed.

Hermione couldn't help but smile, but she knew what he was really up to. The pair waltzed over to Ginny and Brett, who were laughing and having a wonderful time. They were completely oblivious to the fact that they were being scrutinizingly watched through a pair of green eyes.

One, Two, Cha Cha Cha
Author: Pyrrhus
Date: 06-07-02 16:28

When Lia and Robert re-enter the hall, Isolde and Pyrrhus could tell the other couple seem very melancholy for some reason. Py nods in agreement when Isolde whispers in his ear not to say anything about their long faces. She'll find out later from Azaelia what's the matter.

With a wicked gleam in his eye, Pyrrhus extends his hand to Isolde while also addressing the other two, "Prof. Makeallthefungoaway said no Tango but she said nothing about the Cha Cha. Shall we?"

Placing her soft hand into his, Isolde grandly swishes the silver skirt of her robe, her grin matching his. Robert comes to stand on Py's other stand, similarly holding his hand out to Azaelia. Like her cousin, Lia makes an ostentatious swirl with her robe and the two couples smugly walk out onto the dance floor. Py can't help but laugh when Isolde sarcastically comments, "One of the few things Muggles are good for - their dances."

Although the beat of the music is all wrong for the Cha Cha, Isolde and Py along with Lia and Robert ignore it and begin the sultry Latin dance.

Seeing Stars
Author: George Weasley
Date: 06-07-02 17:12

"Majandra? What the bloody 'ell are you doing in here on the night of the ball?" George asked, his brow drawing together.

Majandra shrugged. "Just reading. Why are you in here?"

George chuckled. "Well, didn't you hear me mumbling over there like an old git? I'm out to watch the stars and thought maybe there was an old Quidditch robe in here to snag or something."

"Didn't think before you left the ball in your dress robes, huh?" Majandra chuckled, grinning in the dim wandlight.

George nodded. "Yeah. Rather stupid of me, eh?"

"Rather." They shared a laugh.

George eyed Majandra's blanket. "Care to come out with me and watch the stars?"

"Oh, that would be lovely!" Majandra said, putting the book back into her hiding spot and grabbing the pillow.

George raised an eyebrow. "Wassat for?"

"So I can knock you over the head, George Weasley - for watching the stars, silly! We can share it. We'll put our backs together and lean up, watching the stars." Majandra laughed, shaking her head.

George grinned. "Well, if ya want to knock me over the head, I don't suppose it would do any harm!"

Closing the shed door behind them, George carried the blanket as Majandra carried the pillow.

"Let's go up into the stands. I'll clear away the snow and ice." George said, watching as Majandra nodded. A stunning realization flooded over him as they made their way up to the stands; she was beautiful in the wandlight, but she looked even more beautiful in the dim moonlight. The moon was way over behind the trees of the forbidden forest, which made the starlight exceptional tonight.

Finally in the stands, George uttered a small spell and melted the ice and snow on the bleachers. Then, another, that dried them. Majandra sat down and held the pillow to her back, George sat, also. They leaned their backs together and wrapped the warm, heavy blanket around them, pulling their knees to their chins so their feet wouldn't get cold hanging out of the edge of the blanket.

Majandra pointed to the sky. "Look, that's Orion. The muggles named it . . ."

She went on explaining the star formation, and it amazed George how much she really knew about the stars. How much she really knew about anything! I mean, she had always seemed a brain to George, but wow did she really know a load of other things besides how to knit and do schoolwork. George shook himself back to reality.

"Aren't they beautiful?!" Majandra said, and he could hear the smile behind her words.

He nodded. "Yes you are."

"What?" Majandra sat up, turning around.

Mentally, George punched himself in the gut. Oh, now you've gone and done it, George Weasley! How long was it going to take you to figure out you liked this Fine girl? "What?"

"Don't answer my question with another question, George Weasley. What did you say?" Majandra pushed.

He couldn't tell if she was irritated or flattered. "Um," He wasn't going to lie to her. "I said...yes, you are beautiful."
