Almost Deceived

I look up at the Shrine, then bow my head. I take a few sprigs of herbs from my pouch and place them in the Elixir as an offering. The herbs glow a moment then vanish. Satisfied, I turn and gather some manuscripts and rolls of parchments from a chest. I'll have to learn the Runes to read them, but I'm interested in this tradition's lore, and such knowledge comes naturally to me.
Nevvyn and I walk a while through another passage. Something at the back of mind beings to bother me, as if are missing something important. Something crucial that we came to do, but haven't done yet.
I stop, suddenly.
"Fan nomiad!*"
Nevvyn turns around. "What is it?"
"We came here to find dark items. Objects we don't want Voldemort's goons to find."
Nevyyn looks puzzled a moment. "So we did."
"But we haven't!" I indicate the cavern we left. "In there were wonderful, fascinating things, but nothing threatening or dangerous. I think Magus must have built his own chamber beyond that first one. He'd hope that anyone searching in here would be distracted by the sacredness of that room that they'd forget about why they came."
Nevvyn regards me for a moment. "My dear young lady I do believe you're right! But we have no room in either of our packs for anymore items."
I sigh a moment, "We cannot risk anyone getting a hold of whatever dark equipment lies within this cave. If we can't fit it in our pack, then we must leave some of these other things behind."
Some discussion ensues and we decide to leave behind the chest of gold, except for a few coins I decide to show to Bill Weasley, the flasks of the Oisce Benacti and one particularly curious instrument for The Olahm. Now, to find the workshop of Magnus.
We look around for another passage without finding anything unusual on the walls. "I could use a Mirwall right now," I comment to myself.
"A what?"
"A Mirwall. Another auror gismo. They show secret passages, but are tricky to use."
We search some more when I notice there is a slight change in the cavern roof. I shine my wand at it, but there appears to be no runes around the area. I send a jet of air at the ceiling of the cave and it opens revealing a dark room. I crouch down then leap, grabbing the ledge and pull myself up. Then I let down a ladder near the stairs and Nevvyn climbs up.
I stand up and feel goose bumps rise on my arms. The place has the darkest feel to it yet. Desperately I want to leave. That's how I know this is the real workshop of Magus. We shine our lit wands around revealing twisted remains of people and animals and items that I don't want to even guess their use. I look at Nevvyn, horrified by the items in this place.

Has Anyone Heard of Captain Electron?
Author: Logan Hendrickson
Date: 02-12-04 01:04
Logan sat eating his second helping of just about everything when he turned to the other classmates sitting next to him and asked.
"Have any of you ever heard of Captain Electron? I hear he is playing in Edinburgh? Do you think he might be coming to Hogwarts? I heard he was a wizard turned musician? Is that the truth or what? Does anybody know anythinga about him?
Logan looked around to see if anyone had heard him or were just too busy eating. He knew there were alot of things planned for this evening. But he had received a post from his parents the day before, saying they had run to Edinburgh to visit his granny and everyone was talking about the concert set for Halloween Night.
He wondered if he might do a concert at Hogwarts...that is if he really had been a wizard turned musician...

And then, igniting another spell, he made the broom leap back to the stage, the end of it exploding like an old fashioned rocket ship, not that he expected anyone here to have seen one of those. It was just a cool special effect. He leaped down and waved, and someone threw him his guitar from the side of the stage. He caught it easily, slung on the strap, and started playing.
One last song for his audience, and then he had to go...
Unbeknownst to the Captain, he jumped down but the broom didn't stop. The crowd went wild It raced back and forth across the stage then suddenly slowed and a wonderful silver-grey incanescent smoke poured from it.
The broom jumped and bobbed. It was writing in the air......................THE KING OF ROCK IS BACK!
He hit the first chord for his last song just as the last puff of smoke dotted the exclaimation point.. The crowd pushed forward and rushed the stage chanting and grabbing at the singer's ankles
THE KING IS BACK.....THE KING IS BACK.......THE KING IS BACK!
Sidi looked up from her book. Adam was nowhere in sight.
"Oh God! We're going to get arrested for causing a mob scene!
"Finite Incantatum!"

"Of course I've heard of Captain Electron! He's the best. I have posters of him - uhm, not on the walls mind you 'cause Dad doesn't like him much. But he's the greatest. Look at these!"
I reached into my stiff... jeans I think the muggle word for them was? - and pulled out some trading cards to show Logan.
"Look, that's Captain Electron posing inside a mall. And this is one of Captain Electron in his dress robes. Oh! And look at this one. That's Captain Electron in muggle clothing. And this one's my favourite. It's Captain Electron posing with a Tiger! And that's Captain Electron with a fan. And that's Captain Electron..."
In the Hot Seat
Author: Severus Snape
Date: 02-12-04 08:33
There was a visible change in Voldemort's facial expression, if only for a moment. His snake-like eyes widened as surprise overcame him but his ordinary stoic, yet grave countenance returned almost immediately.
"The Fenririan Manuscript?" Voldemort scoffed. "Are you telling me the long, lost text of Magnus the Norse has been recovered?"
"Yes," said Snape simply, and he retrieved the book from the folds of his robes. He held it aloft for Voldemort and those Death Eaters present to see.
The Dark Lord's gaze was stern as he studied Snape and the book the man held in his hands. He silently contemplated until he turned to Pettigrew and said, "Wormtail."
Wormtail understood Voldemort's unspoken command and scurried towards Snape, where he took the faux manuscript from his hands. Snape's coal-colored eyes regarded Pettigrew boldly, who seemed the only Death Eater to behold the Potions master with intimidation. The other Death Eaters shifted restlessly, some fingering their wands and others exchanging knowing glances with one another.
Wormtail presented the book to Voldemort, who seized it and placed it into his lap. His slender fingers ran over the cover of the manuscript, and with every touch they felt a surge of energy--evil to the core. It felt very real, and with this feeling of authenticity excitement built within the Dark Lord but he kept his true feelings to himself. He thumbed through the delicate pages for a few moments before turning back to Snape.
"Did you find this, Severus?"
"Yes."
Voldemort shut the book and ran his fingers across its cover again. "Where did you find it?"
"Hogwarts."
"Hogwarts?" Voldemort repeated, eyeing Snape suspiciously. "All these years the book has been right under all our noses?"
"It would appear to be so."
Voldemort's narrow eyes bored into Snape's, and although Snape felt nervous he exhibited no sign of it.
"How do you know this is the real Fenririan Manuscript?" Voldemort asked, holding the book up as he questioned Snape.
"It has been validated," Snape began, "by myself."
"Prove it," Voldemort commanded.
Snape nodded and reached for his wand, but the Death Eaters drew their own wands and Voldemort raised a hand. Stopping mid-motion, Severus looked at him.
"Do what you do best, Severus. Brew me one of these potions, and we will all see how genuine this manuscript really is."
Snape dropped his hand and lowered his head in compliance, "Very well." He lifted his eyes and asked, "Are there supplies I can use?"
Push
Author: Draco Malfoy
Date: 02-12-04 09:04
Draco and Santhea sat side-by-side at the Slytherin table in the Great Hall, and Crabbe and Goyle sat across from them stuffing their faces full of anything they could get their grubby hands on. The foursome didn't talk much, as food occupied the mouths of Crabbe and Goyle more often than intelligent conversation and the other pair had no words to say to each other.
Ever since Hogsmeade, when Draco had kissed Santhea in front of Pansy, the on-again, off-again couple had often sat together in silence in the Great Hall, in the common room, in a classroom, anywhere. Draco had always found himself wondering what Santhea was thinking, wanting to use the medalion to read her mind but it always remained in the drawer in his dormitory.
He wondered about her family and the newly strained relationship with her father. She didn't talk about him much, and Draco didn't ask. He knew it was a sensitive subject, and while he usually loved to push her buttons he just hadn't felt eager to do it lately...
Draco cast a sideways glance at the Slytherin girl and took a swig of his pumpkin juice. Tonight's feast was one of the better ones at Hogwarts. Good food, lots of sweets...plenty of things to satisfy the stomach or to cause an awful stomach ache.
He looked across the table at his two bodyguards, who had bits of food all over their faces and robes. They were far too engrossed in the meal to pay any attention to their friends across the table, so Draco turned back to Santhea and broke the silence.
"How's daddy dearest?"
And the Award for Screw Up of the Year Goes to Lawrence Masterson
Author: Lawrence Masterson
Date: 02-12-04 09:54
Lawrence couldn't put the look on Vera's face out of his mind when she had seen he and Sally Spencer kissing in the library during his last study session with her. He kept trying to talk to her, but he couldn't get any reply from her. Finally he resigned to the fact that she wasn't going to talk to him, wasn't going to give him a chance to explain, but then again what was there to explain?
He headed up to his room and sat on his bed, the light on and his books open in front of him. He wouldn't be going to the Halloween feast, not this year, why go when he wasn't going to enjoy it? Why do anything when he had just in a single moment ruined any chance of making sure that Vera enjoyed her last year at Hogwarts?
He watched out of the corner of his eye as Arlington got ready to head down to the feast. "Are you sure you don't want to come?" The question was asked as Arlington headed toward the door of their room.
"I've just broken my girlfriends heart. I'm not very much in a celebratory mood. Sorry. Bring me back something if you want." Though the thought of food made Lawrence's stomach turn.
He barely heard the reply that Arlington had made, before heard the door shut. He would try to focus on his potions homework, but nothing could get that image of Vera crying out of his head. "What were you thinking mate?" He asked himself, the anger and saddness in his tone apparent. Truly he hadn't expected it to happen, Sally knew that he was with Vera, knew how much he cared about her...yet it had happened.
After about an hour of attempting to do his homework, Lawrence put his books away. He thought about trying to get ahold of Vera again, but nothing he had tried already had worked and everyone else was down at the Halloween Feast. He pulled out some parchment and his quill and quickly penned a letter to his Aunt, maybe she would know what to do. He left his room and headed to the owlery, not bothering to stop on the way to or back to his room.
He'd lay in bed, eyes open staring at the ceiling. His mind racing with ways he could possibly get her to talk to him again. Get her to be with him again, to show her that he had screwed up, that the kiss with Sally didn't mean anything, that it would never happen again. More importantly, he wanted to show her that she could trust him again, that he wouldn't hurt her again.
"Vera I'm so sorry." He whispered, shifting in the bed, no he wouldn't be able to sleep tonight, and he foresaw several more sleepless nights until he knew that he had made things right with Vera.
Excited
Author: Fritz Schnackenpfefferhausen
Date: 02-12-04 10:03
A flock of bats flutter overhead and grinning pumpkins glow from where they float near the ceiling of the Great Hall. Fritz sits at the Ravenclaw table with Coco and helps himself to another slice of carrot cake. He is super excited about the Halloween feast, which has yet to disappoint him, and is already looking forward to the next thing he can pile onto his plate.
"Schmeckt gut, ja*?" Fritz asks Coco, passing her a cauldron cake.
She nods her bright orange- and black streaked-haired head vigorously as if she understood his question and smiles her thanks for the cake. Pea pokes his little head out from underneath her robes and wags his little tail, as excited about the merriment as Coco and Fritz are.
Fritz is even more excited about the upcoming Quidditch matches, where he and Coco will both play beater. He shoves some cake into his mouth, swallows hard and takes a sip of juice before asking Coco if she and Pea are as excited about Quidditch as he is.

Two Can Play This Game
Author: Santhea Fennally
Date: 02-12-04 13:32
Santhea's head snapped towards Draco. She had hoped the blonde had understood that her father was one of the topics she didn't wish to discuss, had hoped he'd remain silent. But no. Curiosity must have gotten the better of him at long last.
Putting on her "mask of indifference", she shrugged, "How would I know? And for the record, he's not really my father anymore. After all, he did disinherit me and banned me from Fennally grounds for as long as I should choose to be with ... what were his words again ... that sneaky Malfoy spawn." She was well aware of the fact that being entitled like this would make Draco boil with anger. But in that very moment, she couldn't care less.
However, his reaction was not the expected outburst. Suddenly, her right hand was in Draco's, his fingers caressing her skin. "He doesn't know what he's missing..."
Santhea was startled, but only for a moment. With a nauseatic feeling did she perceive the true reason for Draco's odd behaviour. Parkinson and her 'friends' were glaring daggers at the couple. She was about to pull her hand from the blonde's grasp, when a thought entered her mind. Two could play this game.
Sighing deeply, she rested her head against the Prefect's shoulder, entwining her fingers with his. "I don't think he misses a thing with me gone, or mother. We were like live dolls to him, only meant to look beautiful. So far he thought, I'd always agree with him. But now..."
It was funny to be able to almost see the tiny wheels inside of Draco's head work. The question he asked next, didn't come as a surprise at all. "Why did you do it? Why now?"
Forcing down a chuckle that threatened to break free, she whispered, "You really have to ask?"
Planning Ahead
Author: Hermione Granger
Date: 02-12-04 15:58
"So tell me already, Hermione," Ron pleaded, "what's the big secret?"
"Secret?" Hermione shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know what you mean."
"You've been closeting yourself in your dorm room ever since we came back to Hogwarts. You're always gone, Harry's always in the library. Don't you two ever stop working?"
"Yes, and no. I haven't exactly been devoting every waking hour to my studies, not like Harry. He's really impressed me this year. I just wish you'd take a page out of his book. This is it, Ron. Our last year at Hogwarts. Our last year to truly make something of our education and to set up what should be a brilliant future."
"Yeah, yeah," Ron said, rolling his eyes. "I don't want the lecture again. Tell me what you've been up to."
Hermione started to smile. "Well, I've been writing to places inquiring about jobs, internships, work-studies...whatever I can get my hands on. Most of it has been inspired by my father. I'm so happy that he's back in my life, but..." She paused and drew her brows together. "He shouldn't have to live out the remainder of his life resting in bed all day long without a coherent thought in his mind. I know people do it; there's a whole ward at St. Mungo's for people like him. There are people there who have been in his same condition for years. It's awful, even if they aren't feeling any pain. Anyway, I've considered several options and have even done something that I think would make both of my parents proud if they knew I'd done it. I won't say anything more yet."
"Come on, Hermione!" Ron exclaimed. "You can't leave me in suspense!"
Hermione grinned. "Well, I don't want to get my hopes up so I better just leave it unsaid."
Ron reached for her hand and gave it a warm squeeze. "Okay, but the minute you're ready to reveal your big secret--see, I knew you had one!--you tell me first."
"Okay, okay!" Hermione agreed, laughing. "I will."
"I'm guessing you're thinking about becoming a Healer or something," Ron pondered.
"I'm thinking about it," Hermione admitted.
She grinned and helped herself to some bread, overhearing some young first years discussing Captain Electron. When Logan and Roane finished speaking, Hermione leaned in and said, "I couldn't help overhearing your conversation just now. Captain Electron actually came to Hogwarts last year; he performed at our Valentine's Day dance."
"He also gave a concert in Hogsmeade last year," Ron added.
Hermione nodded. "I'm sure he'll come again sometime before you all graduate."
