Fridays Equals
Busy

Lawrence woke up early on Friday, he headed down to the Great Hall for a quick breakfast, with Vera, grinning as he looked down at the Prefect badge that now adorned his robes. He wondered briefly what had happened to Jet, but oh well. He enjoyed having his own room for the time being as well as the new responsibilities of being a Prefect. He just hadn't told Vera yet, and she was sure to freak out when she found out.
"Hey you." he said as he sat down next to her lightly nudging her before placing a kiss on her cheek. "Oh, I have something to show you." He shifted slightly in his seat when she turned to look at him, eyes glittering with curiosity. He saw her eyes widen when she saw the prefect badge on his robes.
"When did you get that?" She asked, wondering why he had kept the news from her until now.
"Not too long ago. Since Jet isn't around, don't ask I don't know why. Professor Sinistra knew that I had been interested in getting the prefect spot if it ever became available, and it became available so it was mine." He said between bites of breakfast.
"Well how come you didn't tell me?" She asked, pouting playfully.
"Well, for one I wanted it to be a surprise silly, and for two, I was still getting used to the idea of having it." He kissed her once more before turning to finish his breakfast. "Hurry up and eat we are gonna be late for class."
Soon the two were heading hand in hand out of the Great Hall, each of them carrying their books for what would turn out to be a long day of classes. True they had the same classes but, they had them at different times and had different levels of work to get done.
Fridays were always his busy day because he was in class straight from 9 until 2. He didn't mind because that left the rest of the week free for him to do his homework as well as spend time with Vera and practice Quidditch for his newly acquired place on the house team.
Also he had the nagging reminder that this of course was Vera's last year at Hogwarts and she would be graduating and moving on to a career somewhere. Lawrence quickly shook the thought from his mind as he made his way down the hall toward DADA.
Lawrence kissed Vera and sent her off toward the Dungeon for her 9 am potions class and then quickly made his way to the second floor Defense Against the Dark Arts class, double checking that he had his essay for class.

I made it to History of Magic Class not really in a hurry to see the second act of Professor Binn's snore review, but hey, I had to take the class since it is mandatory.
Taking my seat Orie and I began to talk about Quidditch and we both wondered when our first practice was going to be since Harry Potter left the team. "We do need another Seeker but Harry was the best. I don't think anyone can take his place." I whispered just as Professor Binns came floating through the chalk board and the class began.

Dear Captain Electron,
I really love your music. Smile High is my favourite song of all time. Please can I have a signed picture of you? I know you broke up with the Boomers and all but I reckon you'll still be brilliant without them. When are you going to do a concert here in California?
Lots of love,
Jenny.
Dear Jenny,
Thanks for your letter. It's always great to hear that someone likes my music. That makes it all worthwhile! Of course you can have a picture, and thanks for your support. I'll certainly do my best! I'd love to play California, because I hear the weather is gorgeous over there. Any place where it never rains is fine by me. So keep your fingers crossed and maybe I'll be there soon!
Love,
CapE.
Dear Captain Electron,
Hi! You rock! When is the new album coming out? I can't wait to hear it! If you don't mind I have a few questions. 1. Where were you born? 2. Who is Smile High about? 3. What REALLY happened with the Boomers? I heard you beat them all up and then hid in the Bahamas, is that true? 4. How can I get hold of that video of you with Pam Sanderson? 5. I want to get dreads like yours but my mum won't let me. Do you think I should do it anyway?
Bye!
Pete
Dear Pete,
Thanks for your letter. Great
to hear from you! I hope to have the new album out in time for Christmas,
but as you probably know, I'm having to do a bit of work on it since the split.
That's why it's not out already. Now for your other questions -
1. I was born in Ireland.
2. Smile High is about a certain person I met around that time, and that's
all I can say - she wouldn' t like it otherwise!
3. No, that's not true. We just had a little difference of opinion, that's
all, and thought we would do better separately.
4. What Pam Sanderson video?
5. Definitely not. I can do without angry letters from your mother! Seriously,
getting dreadlocks is a big decision, and you should think about it for a
long time before you decide to do it.
I hope you enjoy the album when it's out.
Bye!
CapE.
Electron- I'm writing once again to ask you when you are going to get a proper job and get your hair cut. This is getting ridiculous. Your aunt Pam, the one with the shop, is looking for a new assistant. The old one had a nervous breakdown, stupid girl. This would be a great opportunity for you and I expect you to write to Pam immediately and ask her for the job.
Mum.
Mum-
I have absolutely no intention of moving home, cutting my hair, or taking a shop job. I have a perfectly good job as it is. You can tell Pam to stick the job [CENSORED] and you can do the same with your ridiculous ideas on hairdressing.
Electron.
Dear Captain Electron,
I love you I love you I love
you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love
you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love
you
Will you marry me?
loads of love
Cecily
Dear Cecily,
I love you too, but I can' t marry you, because then I wouldn't have time to write music and do concerts. Have a signed photo instead and I hope you enjoy the new album when it comes out in time for Christmas!

"How'd you two meet? Same town in Hawaii?" Tranquillina asked curiously, continuing the conversation. She juggled her books, switching the stack over to her other arm.
The group found a comfy spot to sit on the couches and chairs as Kairi told the tale. "Well, actually I met Sora at school. I was assigned to show him around and stuff, yeah. He moved to Wakiki from the main land (which is what we call America)." Kairi began to laugh. "You should've heard Little Kiwi over there," She pointed to Sora, "trying so hard to speak Island "lingo". Yeah...I sure had fun teasing him!" She grinned widely to Sora, who went a little red in the face.
"So, do you surf and stuff?!" Roane asked.
"Of course! Everyone surfs on the Islands! My parents used to take me snowbording too." She chuckled when they all looked very confused. "Hawai'i may be all fun in the sun, but it has its share of high snowy mountains, yeah!" She began to laugh. "But anyways, what about you guys? Where do you guys live, yeah?"

Bronwyn and I were in the process of leaving the Charms class, which was our last class of the day. Bronwyn had gone through twice as many classes as I did today, and she still looked a lot happier then I did. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with waking up and going to Defense Against the Dark Arts first thing in the morning. I could never understand Bron's strange attraction to some of her professors.
We walked back to the Hufflepuff common room to work on some homework. Bronwyn and I were working on Transfiguration homework for a while. It wasn't long before I started to get bored so, I picked up my books and other stuff and started to head back to my dorm. I wasn't even out of the common room when suddenly I wasn't walking.
Walking had turned into floating. Looking around I couldn't see a whole lot of anything. Suddenly a light shown brightly in front of me. I closed my eyes and looked away. The light dimmed and I looked to see what it was. I saw a cliff, and there was a woman standing on it.
The woman was covered in a shadow; I couldn't make out any details. Just looking at her gave me the creeps. I could feel the shiver down my spine as she glanced over at the direction I was. She pulled out a wand and I didn't even have to see an evil smile to know it was there. She pointed her wand, but before I could see at what, the sensation of floating became the sensation of falling.
I suddenly met the bottom of the cliff, which strangely looked like the floor of the Hufflepuff common room. I didn't feel any pain, but I was pretty sure I would feel it later. I tried to move but I couldn't tell which of the wildly spinning directions was up, I was so dizzy. As nausea started to set in, all I could mumble was, "I need to stop doing that standing up."

Frustrated with being unable to convince Harry to rejoin the Gryffindor team, Viktor was ready to shake some sense into his friend. Given that he couldn't do that, Viktor knew it was time to officially name a new seeker. He'd had several people attending the Gryffindor practices to work with the team and today he'd sent notes to two of them to meet him in his castle office at four. A knock on the door indicates the arrival of one of them.
Viktor calls, "Come in," and Jared Wynbourne slowly opens the door and tentatively sticks his head inside the room. Viktor flashes a smile and motions for Jared to enter. The second year has barely taken a step when the second student arrives.
With a friendly hello, Ginny Weasley breezes in past Jared and takes the seat Viktor indicates. When Jared is also seated, Viktor explains why he's asked them to see him.
"I vant you both being on ze Gryffindor team. Ginny, you vill please be playing in ze first game, the vun againzt Zlytherin. Jared, you vill pleaze stay practizing vit ze team. I am thinking you vill play in ze zecond Gryffindor game. I vould alzo like you to attend ze workshops I vill be giving on Hogzmeade veekendz, Jared. A few minutes later both Jared and Ginny exit Viktor's office, both grinning ear to ear.

For whatever reason, my telescope has gone out of alignment again. This is the fourth time in the past two weeks. Each time, it requires painstaking readjustment to the cable tension on the external optical element. I have just finished adding a spring tensioner to the last cable when I hear a muffled cough from below. I stroll to the edge of the observatory balcony and look down upon a thatch of stray blond hair, situated atop a long and lanky frame.
"Ahem!" I clear my throat to get his attention. "Who might you be, and How may I be of help?"
"I'm Sebastian... Sebastian Sjoblom... and I've come to get sorted." He looks about until he spies me on the balcony. "Are you Headmaster Dumbledore, sir?"
I start down the stairs, wiping my greasy hands on a cloth which is only slightly cleaner. I fetch the Old Hat from its place on the shelf as I pass by. I reach the lower level, where Sebastian stands in awe of all the gadgetry I have collected over the years. Ah! This must be the lad which Minerva mentioned. Left Sweden under a bit of a cloud, from what she told me. Well, Hogwarts is certainly the place for second chances...... Aloud, I say, "Welcome to Hogwarts, Sebastian! Shall we get started?"
I "Accio!" the stool from the corner but, after taking a second look at this lad's long legs, I decide a conventional chair would be more appropriate. I send it sailing back into the shadows and offer him a seat in one of the old leather chairs. He sits and gives me a brief nod of thanks, as I place the Old Hat upon his head.
"Hmmm..." says the Hat. "This one is not going to be easy..." It scrunches itself up as if studying a rather knotty problem. Slowly, it begins to speak in it's gravelly old voice.
"Intelligent... Yes! And rather
charming...
Gentle... Kind! With no intent of harming.
And here! What's this? A streak
of caring!
And then add to that, a dash of daring!
There's only one house I can't put you in.
That's the cold and slippery Slytherin.
I think... on the whole... you'll fit well enough,
In warm and friendly... Hufflepuff!"
The worried look which had been growing on Sebastian's face is quickly replaced with a broad grin. I remove the hat and replace it on the shelf. I pour two frosty glasses of pumpkin juice and hand one to our newest Hufflepuff. "It's a poor substitute for our Start-of-Term Feast," I tell him with a smile.
I start to call for Londy, but she is there before I can open my mouth. "Would you see that Mr. Sjoblom's baggage is taken to the 6th year dormitories in Hufflepuff?"
"Already I have done it!" she replies. "Should I be taking him there, too?" she asks.
"Yes, and see if Mr. Masterson is about. He can make the other introductions."
Sebastian quickly finishes his pumpkin juice and, with a brief word of thanks, leaves with Londy.

I listened to Kairi enviously. Hawaii sounded very fun and interesting. Much more interesting then dreary old England.
"Where do you guys live, yeah?" she asked.
"Uhm, well, I live in Diagon Alley. You might have visited there when buying your school supplies. My dad has a shop there, and we live onto of the shop in a small apartment. It's pretty busy at the shop, so Dad never had much time to take me out."
I watched as Kairi nodded her head. I shrugged and smiled, feeling that my life at Diagon Alley was about as interesting as a History of Magic class (not very interesting at all).

"I live in Cardiff, Wales with my parents and grandparents.." Tranquillina smiled. "My mother is a Muggle Historian and my father is a chemist at the local pharmacy."
As soon as she finished, her mind swam (for lack of a better word) back to Hawaii. How she would love to go there!

Bronwyn had been working on Transfiguration homework when Desi suddenly rose from her seat with books, notes and quill tucked under her arm, and a bored look on her face. She started to leave for the dormitory while Bronwyn returned to her classwork when suddenly, Desi swayed. She seemed transported into another world, if only for a moment, until her knees gave way and she fell to the cold, stone floor of the Hufflepuff common room.
Bronwyn gasped and jumped from her seat, discarding her Transfiguration textbook and any other related material onto the floor haphazardly, and ran to see to her friend. She knelt beside Desi's shaky form and questioned worriedly, "Desi? Desi? Are you all right?"
Desdemona's eyelashes fluttered and she moaned. "I don't feel very well."
"You look terrible!" Bronwyn agreed bluntly.
Desi managed a small smile, but faltered as soon as she saw Bronwyn's concerned expression.
"Something's wrong with you, Desi," Bronwyn stated quietly. "What happened to you just now?"
"I d-don't know." Desi turned her head and closed her eyes, wincing slightly. Her face was very pale and her forehead was beaded with sweat.
"I'm taking you to Madam Pomfrey," Bronwyn said. She put her arms under Desi's and lifted her up to the best of her ability, placing one of Desi's limp arms around Bronwyn's shoulders. They hobbled out of the common room, Desi still quite delirious and Bronwyn struggling under the weight of her friend.
"Maybe you're coming down with the flu," Bronwyn pondered aloud, "or perhaps it's just something you ate."
"I felt like I was floating," Desi mumbled, "like I am now."
"You're not floating," Bronwyn answered resolutely. "You're being half dragged, half carried to the Hospital Wing by yours truly. I have to go up two flights of stairs with you. Two!" She hoisted Desi into a more comfortable position and prepared for the climb out of the dungeons to the first floor.
"Whatever this is, it better be gone by tomorrow. It's the first Hogsmeade trip of the year!"
On the Team
Author: Jared
Date: 01-22-04 20:27
Jared walks into the Great Hall in a daze after leaving Professor Krum's office. That day of the trials, Jared had ended up oversleeping and in his rush to get down to the pitch, he'd been leaping down stairs three and four at a time. Until he landed oddly and twisted an ankle badly enough that he had to call for help to hobble to the nursing wing.
The ankle was like new within hours but by that time Jared had entirely missed trying out for the Gryffindor team. A few days later, still mentally kicking himself for screwing up, Jared had heard that because of Harry Potter's abrupt departure from the team, Professor Krum was giving any interested Gryffindors the opportunity to try-out for Harry's position.
Jared showed up at the very next practice and had worked with the team since then. And now it's payed off! Sure, he's sharing the position with Ginny Weasley and at any time Harry might decide he wants back on the team, but for now, Jared is an official member of the Gryffindor House Quidditch team and that means a better shot of some position next year, maybe even seeker.
As he takes a seat at the Gryffindor table, Jared realizes he's a little early for supper so he starts looking for friends to share his news with.

Orei moved into the Great Hall, eyes scanning down the length of the Gryffindor table. She grinned spotting Jared. Quickly she moved toward him, she had left her books upstairs in the common room, wanting to take a study break and come down for dinner.
"Hey Jared. What's up?" She asked as she sat down next to him, she caught the grin on his face and figured that it was obviously something good.
"I made the house team! I'm sharing the seeker position with Ginny." He said with a grin.
"Awesome!" Wow, she thought running over the roster in her head. Annie, Jared, Brett...she truly didn't think that this year could get any better. She was now on the House team with three of her closest friends and would get to spend so much time with all three of them...As if she didn't see them often enough already, she had classes with Annie and Jared...but she would get to see Brett more often and that was all in all a good thing.
The two continued talking and were soon joined by several other Gryffindors as students began filing into the great hall for dinner. Orei grinned as Annie claimed a seat opposite Jared and Jared shared his news with the others he knew that had joined them.
"Hey Jared, do you think you'd be able to help me go over some potions stuff and help me out a little with the information for the transfiguration essay?" She questioned about halfway through dinner.
Hoping for
a Warm "Exception"
Author: Sebastian Sjoblom
Date: 01-22-04 20:46
With the house elf who led him there gone, Sebastian sizes up the sixth year boy's dormitory, his new residence. The four-poster beds are neatly lined up, with his at the far end of the room, and the coziness of the place suits him quite well.
So the mascot is a badger... he thinks to himself with a sardonic chuckle as he unpacks his bags, sorts his belongings, and stands up his owl's perch. The sorting hat did say Hufflepuff was "warm and friendly," though, and that's good enough for him, in spite of the unorthodox house animal. He stacks up his textbooks (which, he guiltily reflects, he hasn't bothered to read yet) at the bottom of his well-worn copper cauldron, and notices, by chance, an unopened bag of luminous non-explodable balloons. A thought strikes him: he removes all of the black and yellow balloons in the bag, and sets to acting on his sudden inspiration.
No sooner has he finished than he hears an insistent and businesslike hoot outside, and the sound of a sharp rapping at the window. His owl perches on the sill, knocking at the pane with its sharp beak. He leaps up and throws open the window. A dark-feathered, fierce-looking bird steps across the window sill in a stately fashion.
"You found me, Rudolph!" he says in greeting, and offers his skinny blue-robed forearm as a perch. The owl, however, turns its head to the side as if snubbing its nose at him. It eschews his arm and flutters to the head of his bed instead.
"Rudy," he asks, smiling with the satisfaction of a good deed done, "what do you think? I thought it would be nice, for my roommates." He gestures at his work.
Incandescent balloons in Hufflepuff colors bob about the ceiling. Larger and brighter balloons, weighted down with ribbons tied to bundles of candy, float lazily on their tethers above the beds of each of his dormmates. Identical notes in his imperfect English are laid on the beds, and they read thus:
Dear room-mate,
My name is Sebastian, and I have just transfered to Hogwarts from my Swedish school. Here is a gift to start things on the right foot. I hope that we will see each other around school and become friends.
Hoping for a warm exception,
Sebastian Alberik Sjöblom
Blissfully unaware of his accidental substitution of "exception" for "reception" (though, to his credit, he did spell the word right), he beams. Rudolph hoots disinterestedly and settles his wings at his sides.
"Ah, fine," he says brightly, his mood not at all dampened by the owl, who is usually a pessimist anyway. His smile fairly splits his face. "I cannot wait until they see!" Rudolph pays him no notice, and goes about meticulously cleaning his feathers with his beak. Sebastian stuffs a few Licorice Wands into his robe pocket for later snacking, grabs a yellow balloon by the ribbon, and hefts an Herbology textbook in his arm, to skim over before his Monday class.
"Bye bye, Rudolph," he says to his owl, and bounds down the dormitory stairs into the common room with his bright balloon bobbing behind him, hoping to make some new acquaintances as soon as possible.

Bronwyn half carried half dragged me up a flight of stairs to the first floor. When we got to the top of the next flight of stairs I was mostly carrying my own weight, and by the time we were at the Hospital Wing I was standing on my own. We stopped at the door to the Hospital Wing, but didnÕt walk in.
"Bron, I'm feeling fine, it was nothing to worry about," I said to her.
"Well, you look ok. I still think it would be a good idea to see Madame Pomfrey. You never know."
"Naww, I'm fine! I feel better; it was just a momentary thing. Come on; let's go back to the common room."
"Alright," Bronwyn said as she turned around and we started back for the common room. We walked quietly down the stairs back to the common room. I began thinking of what was in that weird dream thing. It was just so real and sudden. As we walked inside I realized that I would have to clean up the mess that was my schoolbooks and papers.

Bronwyn wasn't exactly convinced that everything was perfectly okay with Desi again, but her friend was no longer shaky, sweaty, pale or faint in the slightest. It was a quick recovery, and since Desi felt as good as new Bronwyn didn't pressure her to go see Madame Pomfrey even though they were already standing outside the Hospital Wing.
They returned to the common room where Bronwyn laid eyes on a new boy about their age. He was standing by the fireplace looking cheerful and holding a bright yellow balloon. When the girls entered, he looked in their direction and smiled.
"Hello," Bronwyn exclaimed happily, casting a sideways glance at Desi to make sure she was really all right. Satisfied with her friend's appearance she turned back to the new boy.
"I don't think I've seen you around here before. Are you new?"
He nodded his head in the affirmative and introduced himself as Sebastian Sjblom.
A smile spread across Bronwyn's face as she encountered his accent. "Pleased to meet you Sebastian. I'm Bronwyn Dewhurst and this is Desdemona Diamond. We're both sixth years."
She looked at Desi again, who seemed as if her fainting spell had never happened, although she looked quite pensive. Bronwyn returned her gaze to Sebastian and added, "We're going to Hogsmeade--that's the village outside the castle--tomorrow morning. You're welcome to join us if you'd like."

"We're going to Hogsmeade--that's the village outside the castle--tomorrow morning. You're welcome to join us if you'd like," Bronwyn offers.
"Hogsmeade," Sebastian says, recalling what he's heard of it. "The wizarding village." "Wizarding village" nearly sounds like alliteration from his mouth, because the "w" sounds much like the "v" and vice versa.
"Yes, I'd love to go," he says, and claps his textbook down onto a coffee table near the hearth. He falls backward into one of the soft easy chairs clustered round it. His bony frame is lost among the soft cushions, and he struggles to sit fully upright. With that accomplished, he reaches into his robe's pocket and withdraws a red Licorice Wand. Thinking of his fellow Hufflepuffs, he quickly pulls out two more and sets them on the coffee table in a wordless offering. In search of the best conversation starter, he chooses the one topic almost certain to elicit enthusiasm:
"Do you play Quidditch much here?" he asks. He knows the answer, but grins at the girls' affirmative response anyway. He mulls over the Licorice Wand, and chews off the end.
"You know, I used to play Chaser, sometimes," he says, trailing off, his smile hopeful, and wends his forefinger around the black ribbon of his sunny balloon.
