As soon as the winners were announced, Emma and Ariana had rushed out from the crowd to congratulate their friends. 'I cannot BELIEVE you guys actually did that - you must be so sick!' Emma laughed, all thoughts of strange books and even the upcoming OWLS driven from her mind in the excitement of the day.

Drake nodded slowly. 'Yeah, a little.' He said, but there was a wide grin on his pie-covered face and he licked his lips to get the crumbs.

Arianna handed him a napkin, and the four of them burst out laughing.

They then headed out to the quidditch pitch in preparation for the Three-Legged race.

In the Maze

Harry and most of the others in his group at the Great Hall headed back outside after the pie eating competition was over. After ice skating for awhile several decided to try out the maze. Many twists and turns later, not to mention occassional hesitation from Harry as memories came back of another maze on the pitch in his fourth year, with the group breaking into smaller groups, and Ginny, Luna, Neville, and Harry found the center of the maze. Winky, for once not a butterbeer bottle in sight, merrily greets them.

"Welcome! If you be answerin' a riddle you be winnin' a prize."

Ginny looks at the others, "What do you say? Want to hear a riddle?"

The other three nod. "Sure." "I'm game." "Sounds fun!"

Winky clears her throat and asks, "The word CANDY can be spelled using just two letters. Can you be figurin' out how?"

The four put their heads together, whispering as they discuss the riddle. It's Neville who suddenly exclaims, "I have it!" He turns to Winky.

"The answer is C and Y."

"Very good, Mr. Neville, sir!" Winky hands them each a small bag. Each bag contains an assortment of candy, including novelty candies such as brightly colored novelty lips.

Ginny pops a fruit chew in her mouth and in mid-chew her eyes go wide. "The Three-Legged Race! It's almost three. We'd better hurry!"

The quartet go running through the maze, trying to find the exit and with Harry wondering if Ron's still in the maze or impatiently waiting for his partnet at the starting point for the race.

What a Bore

Merdroit has disapparated from Dumsrtang to his house somewhere in Spain, to get ready for the ball. Or, to wait for the ball to start. He really couldn't care less about the event. The whole ordeal was a grand waste of time, as Merdroit had told the Grand Master. Really, the man was losing his mind. Time, Merdroit thought, for a replacement.

Meanwhile, Merdroit considered his and Nathaniel's plan. He'd acquired some more of the materials needed. At least he'd be able to tell the other knights about this progress tonight.

The clock struck an hour, but Merdroit paid little attention to what that hour is. He was looking at an illustrated manuscript. It had been banned from any "civilized" library year ago.

Merdroit smiled, as much as the man ever did. By summer all will be in place.

Meanwhile, he had a social event to attend.

Three Legs
Author: Harry Potter
Date: 06-23-04 16:33

Luna, Ginny, Neville, and Harry arrive for the Three-Legged Race just in time! Ron waves Harry over. "You did the whole maze, didn't you?"

"Tell you later."

Ron grins and they stand side by side as they listen to instructions. Ginny and Luna take the vacant spot next to Harry. As the Conjointius spell is placed on each team, Harry looks around at the competition.

Fred and Blossom. Majandra and George. The twins still look a little green from all that pie they ate earlier. So do Kody Reese-Emerson and Drake Bennett. The Slytherin couple Isolde Farnon and Pyrrhus Fine look rearing to go. Harry wouldn't put it past them to try and cheat. That little Ravenclaw Coco with the bright blue hair and no shoes despite being bundled up against the cold and Fritz Mister Last Name Really Hard To Pronounce and the team of Roane Eternal and Tranquillina Aemilius round out the field.

As Professor Vector makes sure everyone is lines up evenly, Professor McGonagall prepares to give the go signal.

Uh Oh!

In their rush to get to the race, then to hear the instructions, Ginny and Luna didn't think about which side they had to each other. They didn't think about it when their middle legs were joined together.

Focused on waiting for the start signal, Ginny and Luna don't think about anything but the finish line. Not until the race actually starts that is. They take their first few steps, attempting to get the smooth rhythm going that they'd developed when practicing. Luna takes a quick glance at Ginny, disbelief on her face. Ginny manages a hasty look at Luna, her own face showing shock.

To late do they realize. The race is underway. In unison they proclaim, "We're on opposite sides from how we practiced!" Nothing to do about it now, the girls turn their concentration on making it down the course without tripping.

A Mother Figure?
Author: Bellatrix Lestrange
Date: 06-23-04 18:45

Somewhat bored with the whole having to wait twentyone days to make polyjuice thing, Bellatrix had decided to change tactics to a certain degree. Voldemort's instructions had been simple – find Snape and get an update on what he had discovered from the scroll.

Appearances can be changed in many ways, and Bellatrix had decided to branch out. She looked at the evil bottle that sat on the counter and thought some more. It couldn't be any more painful or surprising than the effects of Polyjuice she supposed. Taking a deep breath she swallowed half of the contents and waited to see what happened next.

Ten minutes later she was admiring her new appearance in the mirror when Rodolphus walked in. He turned around and started, then peered closer to Bellatrix. Finally he spoke, "Mother?" he said in an incredulous voice.

"I suggest you take that back – now," she barked.

"Bellatrix?" More incredulous staring. "Good Gad, what have you done to yourself?"

"I've taken a damn aging potion, Rodolphus," she replied. "What did you think – your mother had returned from the grave? I consider that comment a terrible insult and I shall be taking it up with you when I return from my assignment." She swept regally from the room which was a feat in itself considering she was now three inches shorter than before.

On the way downstairs she stopped and looked in the mirror. Staring back at her was a woman of only five foot five, with long, grey hair that fell to her waist. She looked as if she was about 85, and had deep, ingrained lines around her mouth and her eyes. Only the hard stare might give her real self away, so she'd have to watch herself in public. Her only real concern might be that the potion might not wear off in time for the ball.

The only other thing she'd done to complete her disguise was to put on a horrid cyan dress she'd found in Rodolphus's mother's closet. Perhaps that was what had thrown him off. Nobody would ever expect Bellatrix Lestrange to show up anywhere in...cyan.

With a blood curdling laugh she disapparated to Hogsmeade.

Steady Pace Will Win the Race
Author: Roane Eternal

"Outside. Inside. Outside. Inside."

I kept up the whispered instructions, as Tranquillina and I moved our three legs in a steady motion. First the outside leg, then the inside leg. Outside leg. Inside leg. Outside leg. Inside leg.

"Roane!" whispered Tranquillina. "I think we're leading!"

Taking a quick look around, I realized she was right! Fighting the urge to quicken the pace, I continued to whisper quietly. "Outside. Inside. Outside. Inside."

Inhouse Delivery

Sir Hootsalot, the infamous owl belonging to Roane Eternal, had a very important job to do. Although how the job could be so important as the three giggling girls had handed him their letters, truly miffed the owl. But all of that aside, the owl knew he had to deliver the three letters right away! Luckily enough, the letters were not being delivered too far away. Two were being dropped off at the room for the Gryffindor first year boys, and one was to be left in the room of a second year Gryffindor boy. Sora, Logan and Riku - the owl could remember sending Christmas notes to these very same boys in December.

Sir Hootsalot ruffled his feathers as he continued his flight.

Very strange notes indeed. Each written by one of the girls, and sealed with a kiss that had magically left its mark by continuously making kissing and smacking noises. The owl could hardly fathom what those girls were up to now.

And We're Off - Or Are We?
Author: Majandra
Date: 06-23-04 20:42

George, wishing he'd won the pie eating contest but gloating nonetheless at getting a prize - pro Quidditch tickets at that! - is so busy informing Fred it's best for his twin to drop out now, he totally misses the start signal. Majandra, on the other hand, hears it clearly. Not knowing her better? half isn't paying attention she takes off; then promptly falls flat on her face. Or as flat as one can get when conjoined at the leg to someone else who's still not paying attention. Alternating giggling and yelling at George, Majandra pushes off the ground and is only able to stand thanks to George finally realizing something is wrong. He gives her a very sheepish grin, a peck on the cheek, and then they're off, already trailing well behind some of the other teams.

Angels
Author: Pyrrhus

Isolde and Py studiously ignore the stupid antics of the various weasels - breed worse than rabbits that family - smugly grinning as they wrap an arm about each other's waist then stand patiently for their legs to be joined. Both look innocent as angels when first Professor Vector and then Professor McGonagall warns against cheating. At the start signal they take off, slowly at first, getting a rhythm going, then lengthening their strides and picking up the pace. Neither bother looking back at teams making idiots of themselves and soon they are ahead of most of the others. Now to just gain some ground and pass the leaders.

With a Desire to Win
Author: Isolde

Alexis Black had called it right when she often thought of her friends as one unit, IsoldePyrrhus. Conjoined at the leg, when normally conjoined at the hip, they were able to get from point A to point B with little hindrance--though admittedly, it wasn't as easy as using two legs each.

Still, they hobbled along swiftly and with impressive skill, leaving their fellow contestants far behind--aside from the team of first year, Gryffindor girls.

"Are we going to let a pair of sissy little Gryffinbores beat us?" Isolde hissed, eyes narrowing as she looked at the backs of the two girls.

"Not if I can help it," Pyrrhus replied. "Not if we can help it, that is."

Determined now more than ever, the Slytherin duo put their minds and bodies to the task and set out to close the gap between themselves and the first years.

Oh What a Day
Author: Blossom
Date: 06-23-04 21:45

Standing close to Fred as a stately looking woman, whom Fred whispered is Professor Minerva McGonagall, points her wand at their middle legs, clearingly stating, "Conjointius!" Blossom thinks about what a full day it's already been.

Breakfast in bed fixed by Fred, who didn't eat so he'd have more room for the pie eating contest. Exchanging gifts, including the engagement ring Fred had designed himself. Blossom had been wearing a ring of Fred's all week in place of the actual engagement ring. Time spent talking about the wedding date and finally settling on one. Discussion about the reactions of Molly and Arthur the day before. Apparating to Hogsmeade where they met up with George and walking up to the school. A quick tour of Hogwarts and the grounds followed by ice skating. Lunch with Maj, George, Fred, Hermione, Ron, and Ginny. The pie eating contest. More ice skating. Going through portions of the maze with the group. Now here at a three-legged contest. And to think, it's only just past three in the afternoon!

The race begins with Blossom and Fred starting all well. They move switfly, at one point even taking the lead. Then it happens. Fred grabs his stomach and starts lurching to the side of the race course. Blossom can't do anything but go along with him. Bent over now, Fred groans about how he shouldn't have eat so much pie just before his stomach empties on him. Not wanting anyone else to feel sick at the sight, Blossom shields it with her body and hurridly does a scourgify spell. "Do you need to go to the hospital wing?"

"Nah," Fred replies between pants for cleansing air, "Oi but I'm hungry now."

Rolling her eyes then bursting out laughing, Blossom grins at Fred and they re-enter the race, knowing they cannot possibly win it but having fun trying anyway.

Someone On My Mind
Author: Natalie Rose
Date: 06-23-04 22:05

Natalie entered the Great Hall just in time to watch the pie eating contest. She approached her group of friends just brushing by Maj, who turned to her.

"Hi, Natalie! Just in time. It's about to start."

Maj then introduced Natalie to Blossom Wedgewood; they both greeted each other with a smile. Maj pointed out the Weasley twins, her face brightening as she looked towards George; Maj then told her she’ll introduce them later. Natalie looked towards Hermione eager to hear what happened this morning when Rolan received the plant. She had missed breakfast because she over slept. Just then the whistle blew and the contest started. Natalie joined the rest of the group cheering on George and Fred. Slowly most of the contestants started to look sick. Unfortunately, George and Fred ended up coming in fourth place. A boy named Kody Reese- Emerson, who Natalie had briefly talked to once before in a class, won the competition. The group then decided to go ice skating and after headed towards the maze.

They all entered the maze and at one point decided to break into smaller groups. After a couple of minutes the group Natalie was in collectively decided to give up noticing how fast the time was ticking towards the races and other competitions that were being held.

The group made their way to the area where the races were to start and wished the participants good luck. Harry and the others hadn’t arrived yet so Ron started to look nervous but just before the race began Harry, Ginny, and Luna came racing towards the starting line with Neville trailing behind. The contestants legs were magically bound together forming one leg using the Conjointius spell. The go signal was shouted and the pairs raced off towards the finish line. Well most of the pairs, Maj and George had a little trouble beginning and Luna and Ginny looked like they were having a very hard time. Natalie was a little worried about them hurting themselves. She and Hermione laughed and cheered on their friends. The whole day she had been thinking about Rolan and wondering how he reacted about receiving the plant from a secret admirer, but she wanted to wait till after the races to ask Hermione this way she didn't seem too eager…
