Monday Morning

The repeated pricking of needles through the sheets wakens Harry. His vision blurred from both sleepiness and not having his glasses on, Harry makes out Crookshanks at the end of his bed, kneading his legs in the way cats do just before settling down to sleep. Extending his arms and stretching then sitting up and doing it again, at length Harry drops one hand down to pet the large cat. "Couldn't do this to Hermione and wake her up, could you?"

The cat doesn't even deign to look at Harry before rolling onto his back, paws up, in the scratch-my-stomach position. Harry obliges and within seconds, Crookshanks seems to be asleep and purring. Harry stretches again then rolls off the bed, padding quietly over to Ron's bed. "Wake up, Ron. Breakfast then Herbology."

Ron mumbles something then burrows further under the covers. Harry pokes at an exposed length of Ron's arm with no success, shrugs, and grabs everything he needs for a quick shower and to brush his teeth. When he returns a short time later, not even Ron's arm is visible. Harry firmly shakes the lump in the bed but again gets no response.

"Fine, meet you in Herbology." A muffled, garbled snore is Ron's response.

Shaking his head but grinning as well, Harry gathers up his Herbology text, and enough parchment, pen, and ink to get him through his one class of the day, then heads to the Great Hall for breakfast.

Breakfast
Author: Hermione Granger
Date: 06-10-04 09:32

Hermione was already in the Great Hall when Harry arrived for breakfast. Seeing him enter through the great double-doors of the dining chamber out of the corner of her eye, Hermione looked up from her half-empty plate of honey-smothered waffles and smiled at Harry as he made his way over to the Gryffindor table.

"Good morning, Harry," she said, making room for him by removing some of her books and parchments from the table. "Sleep well?"

"Like a rock," Harry replied, settling down next to her on the bench. He put his school supplies down on the seat next to him and then helped himself to a pair of waffles. "I might have slept through breakfast, though, had my special alarm clock not given me a timely wake-up call."

"Your special alarm clock?" Hermione inquired curiously.

Harry nodded and asked for the syrup before elaborating, "Orange, fluffy, answers by the name Crookshanks."

"Oh!" Hermione exclaimed, blushing slightly. "I'm so sorry, Harry."

"No worries, Hermione," Harry said, grinning. "I had to get up anyway."

Hermione smiled. "And Ron? Is he coming down to breakfast?"

Harry shrugged. "I tried to wake him, but when I left the dorm room he was still in bed. I imagine he'll make it to Herbology on time, though."

"I should hope so!" Hermione exclaimed, shaking her head in a disapproving manner. "Do you realize that N.E.W.T.s are in four months? There's still so much to learn before then, and the exams will be here before we know it! Ron can't afford to miss any classes from now until the end of term, and that goes for you and me as well. I've spent so much time thinking about the future lately that I have not put as much effort into my studies as I might have normally. I feel so unprepared!"

Hermione expelled a deep breath and cast a look at Harry, who'd watched her mini-tirade with a hint of amusement evident on his face.

"If anyone will ace the N.E.W.T.s, it'll be you Hermione. I'm sure you're well on top of things as it is, even if you really don't think you are. Anyway, I think it's a little too early to be stressing about the exams. As you said, we still have four months. That's plenty of time to get prepared."

Hermione forked a piece of waffle and put it in her mouth, chewing silently for a few moments as she pondered Harry's words. When she spoke again, she put down her fork and shoved the empty plate away from her. "You're still a little ahead with your studies, aren't you? Perhaps we can form a study group... you, me and Ron and anyone else who'd like to join. I think it could be helpful for us all."

Harry nodded absentmindedly and checked the time. "Yeah, maybe... but with Quidditch practice and..."

Hermione laughed and rolled her eyes.

Another Monday...

Sora snored loudly as he lay there in his bed. Felix jumped onto the bunk, she strolled over to Sora's face and licked his nose a few times. All Sora did was give a snort and rubbed his nose. Snoring even more loudly now, Felix decided to plop down over Sora's head.

"Felix.....?" grunted Sora. He stroked his beloved black cat across her back, and she began to purr lovingly as she rolled off of Sora's face and onto his chest. "Good morning, fuzzy face!" Sora greeted Felix as he stroked her furry chin. He checked his watch then shot up out of bed and began to get dressed as quickly as possible.

"I'M LATE!!!!!!!!" He cried as he snatched his wand and books as he ran out the boys dormitories and out of the Gryffindor House. Sora only had five minutes before his first class for today (Defense Against the Dark Arts).

As Sora ran down the stairs, his shoe got caught in the trick step, and he went tumbling all the way down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, Sora smacked his head on the hard stone floor. "Ouch..." Sora muttered. He found the strength to rise to his feet, then continued to run to class.

"I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date!!" Sora repeated as he ran inside the classroom. He lunged himself into his seat next to Kairi, Logan, Tranquillina, and Roane. They greeted him warmly; Sora smiled back, but put his head on the desk with his hands on the back of his head. Now that he had the time to really understand how much falling down the stairs hurt...

Nocturnal Images
Author: Sidi Ross
Date: 06-10-04 16:30

Adam was sound asleep with his arm tight around her arm and chest. Sidi could feel his breath against the back of her neck. She could hear the deep wheezing in his lungs. She wondered if he'd run out of asthma meds and not told her. She listened to him talk. He never told her about his dreams anymore. Since they’d moved to Hogsmeade he'd refused to speak of them and it worried her. Adam's dreams used to be her favorite divination tool. The images and symbols were so lucid and vivid. More importantly, they were always correct and in minute detail. Sidi decided to take matters into her own hands and wake very early when Adam was in his most active dream state.. As in consciousness, Adam was in unconsciousness, always talking. She unhooked herself from her husband and reached for the journal and quill beside the bed and when the sighs, breathing and nonsense words became word pictures and conversation, she started to write.

A Good Morning
Author: Vera Delgety
Date: 06-10-04 16:53

Vera skipped down to the Great Hall for a light breakfast. She was in a bubbly mood today, Hufflepuff's loss to Gryffindor in the last Quidditch match had passed through her system.

Lawrence, Vera's charasmatic boyfriend, was waiting for her at the table. "Good mornin' Sunshine!" Lawrence grinned as he kissed her cheek. "I didn't think we'd get to eat together! I have a class in thirty."

Vera winked and sat down. "Wouldn't miss breakfast with my lassie for the world!" Buttering her toast and nabbing a few pieces of fruit, Vera nibbled on some bacon. "So, what you want to do after classes today?" Lawrence asked. Vera thought a moment. "Well, I don't have a clue! You have anything in mind?"

Lawrence swallowed his pumpkin juice and looked up at the clock. "Well, we'll figure something out luv. Maybe just to the library eh'?" he smiled. "Defense Against the Dark Arts time. See you at 10:30 then?"

"Of course." Lawrence kissed her and left Vera at the table with her best friend Susan Bones.

Ellspeth's Herbals Etc -- Friendly Deliveries
Author: Ellspeth
Date: 06-10-04 18:11

Early that morning found Ellspeth in the greenhouse near the back of her Shoppe. She had needed to check on some of the plants she had started for the upcoming Valentine Holiday.

The tiny Candy Heart Plants were coming along wonderfully. They would be in full bloom just in time for a gift for that someone special or just tokeep you supplied with something sweet~~they even came complete with the cute little sayings across the front of the Candy Heart.

She had been lucky enough to purchase a good supply of seeds from "Madame Parsnip's Exotic Seed House" in Switzerland. Madame Parsnip had even said she was actually developing a new plant that had the tiny chocolate hearts in both milk and dark chocolate that would be available next year! Ellspeth had already put her order in for a double batch of both kinds of seeds.

She quickly watered the rest of the new plants and then headed into the house for a quick cup of tea before opening the Shoppe for the day. She needed to work on a new "Special's" sign for the Candy Heart Plants soon. It would be a cute addition to the front window.

She gazed out the window of the Shoppe at the snow that had drifted into every nook and cranny of Hogsmeade. She could see from just one look that she would have very few customers today and made a sudden decision to visit a few of the other businesses in Hogsmeade. She really hadn’t had much time to get to know any of her neighbors since moving here in early December.

Today just might be a good day to go visiting. She remembered she had a package of Herbs and Powders for a "Sidi Ross Sparrow" that was part owner of the book store across the street. Pots & Pages, Ellspeth read as she stood looking out the window. Today would be a perfect day to visit and the package would be a wonderful way to get to know some "new" friends. Maybe she could find some new books on Herbal Teas. And that reminded her, she had also wanted to pick up a book explaining the basics of Quidditch. Now that she lived next to Hogwarts School, she just knew she would need to learn the ins and outs of the game and of course attend a few of the matches.

Quickly finding boots, gloves, hat and a warm scarf, she grabbed her wool cloak from the rack near the door. All bundled up, she headed for the door. As she shut the door behind her she took her wand and quickly spelled the door handle to tell anyone who touched it, where she was if they needed anything. Then turning she headed through the deep snow and across the street to the bookstore.

Pease Porridge Cold
Author: Ethan Somerset
Date: 06-10-04 18:40

Dozing slightly, Ethan woke fully when the long familiar sound of the door at the end of the darkened corridor creaked open. A Hit Wizard stepped over the threshold, pushing a trolley laden with sparsely-filled food trays. He slowly ambled down the line, stopping at each cell to present the Azkaban inmates with breakfast: cold porridge and aged pumpkin juice.

Ethan yawned and stretched his tired limbs before swinging his legs over the side of the uncomfortable sleeping-cot. His joints ached, not merely from the cramped conditions of his prison cell, but also because of the miserable, wintry February weather raging outside. The walls of Azkaban were certainly thick, but the dark, gloomy atmosphere and the cold stone floors and walls brought little warmth to the denizens of the compound.

Shivering, Ethan shook off what little remained of his weariness and rose to his feet. He looked across the small cell at Nero, who lay in his bunk with a thin, gray blanket pulled up to his chin. His small, beady eyes were open and they rested on Ethan.

"Morning," Ethan mouthed. He'd long since removed "good" from his vocabulary. Nothing in his life could be linked to that word. Not mornings, not nights. Nothing.

Nero managed a half smile and rubbed at his eyes, finally kicking the pitiful excuse for a blanket off of his body as he, too, rose from his cot to approach the front of his cell.

The trolley continued its slow journey to the end of the corridor, where Ethan patiently waited for his meal. After they'd both received their meager breakfasts, Ethan and Nero sat down side by side in their respective cells and quietly ate, waiting for the Hit Wizard to disappear through the door at the end of the hallway. When it clicked shut behind the man, Ethan turned to Nero.

"I've been thinking about your sister lately," he said, stirring the grayish slop in his bowl with his spoon.

"She... has another commitment, Ethan," Nero responded.

"No, no," Ethan laughed, "you've got it wrong. I haven't been thinking about her in a romantic sense. I've just been thinking about her... in general." Ethan paused and ate a few bites of his breakfast. Then he washed it down with a generous swig of pumpkin juice.

"Why is that?" Nero questioned. His tone revealed no indication of hostility, but rather mere curiosity.

Ethan shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly and stated, "I feel like I've met her before... You said she works at the Ministry. In which department?"

"Mysteries," Nero replied. "She's an Unspeakable, but that's all I can tell you." Nero drank from his cup and then asked, "You worked at the Ministry. Perhaps you'd seen her there and just remember her face."

"Yes, perhaps you're right," Ethan said. He ate some more, all the while thinking about Morgain Noir. He'd thought of her constantly since their meeting several weeks ago. He knew her face, of that much he was certain, but a small, nagging voice in the back of his mind continually told him that he knew much, much more about Morgain Noir than just what she looked like.

Second Month of the Year
Author: Alexis Black

Monday, February 9th, 1998

February—you could taste the impending holiday in the air. Students’ eyes were slightly hazed over with infatuation, and met each other a little more often than was natural, anticipating the fourteenth. It made Alexis nauseous. There was already enough loving going around, it seemed to her, and the steadily-nearing holiday would just give IsoldePyrrhus and excuse to get more fuzzily intimate. Needless to say, when she woke up Monday morning after not nearly enough sleep in her opinion, she was pretty cranky about the atmosphere.

"Good morning, Alexis!" Isolde beamed.

"Morning." The dark-haired slytherin grunted, stretching and peering out of her curtains to stare at her friend as she brushed her hair. When Isolde was done she turned from the mirror to smirk at Alexis.

"Herbology starts in a half an hour, you know." Her eyes twinkled as they caught sight of Alexis slightly poofy and disheveled hair.

"I know." Alexis closed the curtains and flopped back onto the bed, wishing the cursed week would just be over already. Unfortunately, it had only just begun. Resigned, she slid out of bed and put on her robes, giving her hair a cursory run through with a brush on her way out.

Boys were dumb, romance was dumb, and Alexis really hated February.

Sitting in Class
Author: Roane Eternal
Date: 06-10-04 19:26

I looked over at Sora and winced.

"What happened?" I whispered softly trying not to distract the rest of the class.

"Can't you guess? I fell... again".

I bit my lip, and looked at the others, feeling sorry for Sora who was obviously in a lot of pain. Looking around the room, I noticed a glass of water sitting on the Professor's desk. I took my wand out, and hoped the teacher wouldn't arrive for a few more minutes.

"Accio glass!"

As the glass flew towards us, Tranquillina grabbed it from the air.

"Roane! What are you doing?" Her voice had gone high pitched in alarm.

Not having time to explain, I poured the water onto the desk and pointed my wand. In a whispered voice, I tried out the spell I had read about the other night. I watched in delight as the water turned into ice. Breaking the ice into roughly shaped ice cubes I passed them over to Sora.

"Wrap these in the sleeve of your robe and put it against your head. That should hold you over until you can see the nurse."

Sora took the ice cubes a bit reluctantly, but seemed immediately happier as he placed it behind his head, where I was guessing a huge bump was already forming.

A Blooming Start to Valentine's Week
Author: Natalie Rose
Date: 06-10-04 21:53

Natalie yawned. She was still a little groggy after being licked awake by her kitten, who was growing bigger everyday. She looked down at her wrist to see the charm bracelet her best friend Bobby had sent to her last month on her birthday. She opened the heart charm, which contained the bewitched piece of parchment that sent instant messages to him.

"Hey I hope you have a good Monday, the grounds are covered in snow and everything looks so beautiful. Tell everyone I say hi and that I miss them all and will hopefully be able to visit for the Easter holidays. Take care! Love, Natalie."

She smiled when she received a note back minutes later with a picture scribbled of a quite accurate drawing of their friend Marietta with bed-head. "Hey Natty, we all miss you. There's a girl I think I like. I'll owl you later with more details. Have a good day!"

She closed the clasp on the charm and looked up to see Rolan Boyd, the seventh year Ravenclaw she had asked Maj about during the last Quidditch match. He looked over towards the Gryffindor table and she felt her face become hot and flush. She quickly turned toward Maj and started saying anything that came to her mind so that he wouldn't notice she was staring.

"So… Um… the pumpkin juice is quite good today." Maj looked at her inquisitively and Natalie mouthed Rolan's name to her. When Maj realized what was going on she laughed, let Hermione know what was going on and they both started to tease her.

"I can't help it. He's so good looking, intelligent, and from what I've seen very sweet to people. There's nothing more I could want." Natalie replied blushing.

"Well you better get your head off Rolan and back on your studies. O.W.L.'s aren't too far from now and I know you want top scores," Hermione replied.

Once Natalie was sure Rolan was sitting and wouldn't notice her she stole another glance at him. His brown hair was falling into his eyes and he had a sleepy grin on his face, she couldn't help but smile. She finished her pumpkin juice and looked down at her schedule. Hermione was right, she couldn't let herself fall apart for a boy she had no chance with.

Before she could get up from the table an owl dropped a tube before her containing an exquisite rose with a note attached. She opened the package and read the note. "A rose for my Rose, although this does not compare to the beauty you possess. Love, Your Secret Admirer." Once again her face turned red and she passed the note to her two friends.

"Wow looks like someone thinks highly of you." Maj said smiling. She handed back the note, which Natalie placed inside the tube with the rose. She deposited the package in her bag and as she got up to leave she joked with the girls saying, "O great, this is really going to help me concentrate on my studies. The whole time I'll be drawing hearts on my parchment and racking my brains to think who could've sent this."

"I'll probably be staring mesmerized at the ever blooming roses in Herbology willing this rose to be from a certain boy. Hey a girl can dream can't she?" She walked from the table laughing after saying a quick, "See ya later," and walked out the doors of the Great Hall excited how her Valentine's week was starting.

Strange Visitor...
Author: Logan Hendrickson
Date: 06-10-04 22:13

Logan had been sitting peacefully in his Defense Against the Dark Arts Class when Sora came stumbling frantically into the room. Not surprised that he was late, but Logan could see that he was obviously in pain. He watched as Roane brought the glass of water over and made ice of it, breaking it into chunks and having Sora put it on the back of his head. Sora looked a bit better after that and Logan gave him a smile as he laid his head back down on the desk for another moment.

Just then, Prof. Turin came into the room to begin the class for the morning.

"Students...today we........"

Logan listened intently as Prof Turin began giving his lesson, and then the reading and writing assignments to the class...when his eyes were drawn to a rather secluded corner of the room. Leaning against the wall was a young man of about 16 or 17 years of age. What was odd were the clothes he was wearing. They seemed to be students robes, but very old fashioned. Logan watched him intently for some time when suddenly the young man looked over at him and smiled a bit, then returned his eyes back to Prof. Turin.

That was odd, thought Logan, then quickly realized he hadn't been paying attention to the last few words that Prof. Turin had been saying. Quickly he checked with Kairi to see if he had missed anything. She gave him an odd sort of look and whispered "No".

Logan looked once again at the corner...to find it empty! Quickly looking around to see where the young man had moved to, he could not see him at all. He kept looking from side to side around the room until finally Sora gave him a bit of a nudge with his foot and motioned to Prof. Turin.

Logan looked up at the Professor and realized he was watching him. He quickly ducked his head and began writing on the assignment the had been given.

Every once in a while Logan would glance quickly at the corner, of course finding nothing there. That was odd, he again thought to himself, at the same time wondering where the young man had gone.

When the class was over, Logan paused at the door and once again looked over at the corner of the room. There had been something distinctly odd about the young man standing there.......
